Termination of the research project

Termination of the research project

A decision has been made to terminate the research project "Wood Scanner with the Ability to Detect Wood Defects and Perform Appropriate Sorting." The project was implemented in collaboration with SIA “Avoti” under the European Union Recovery Fund investment project “Forest Sector Competence Center” No. 5.1.1.2.i.0/1/22/A/CFLA/007.

During the design process, it was found that the complete detection of the defect spectrum, strictly adhering to the client's requirements and parameters (scanning speed and high scanning precision), is not feasible within the existing project budget and timelines.
Currently, there are no technical solutions available in the market that could ensure compliance with the specified requirements, particularly regarding sorting speed.
The development of custom-made solutions, according to the information provided by equipment manufacturers, is a time-consuming process, and such a development scenario would not allow adherence to the project implementation deadlines.
The development of new technologies in this area will require significantly higher financial investments than initially planned, and the overall costs do not align with the project budget. Therefore, the project will only be economically viable when the market offers more advanced technical solutions capable of achieving the project's objectives.
Despite the termination of the aforementioned research project, SIA “Mechanika Engineering” continues to develop vision technology, leveraging the knowledge and experience gained during the project's implementation in other project executions, without limiting itself to the woodworking industry. The development of this technology has allowed the company to advance this field, and thus the company plans to develop its vision technology department and explore its capabilities in technology implementation and application promotion across various domains.
